Casual friday!
Many people have heard about it, but not many people I know do it.
Time to change that!
Luckily my Greenchoice electricity company is organizing a big national event.

For those who wonder:
The idea of 'The Warm Sweater Day' - as we call 'Casual Friday' is simple:
Put on your warm sweater on fridays, turn down the heater and safe up to 7% energy per Celcius and with that 7% less CO2.
They have a website with lots of tips and info, but unfortunately it is in Dutch...

The Warm Sweater day is an annual event that is usually around february the 16th to celebrate the Kyoto Protocol birthday. The day on which in 2005 the Kyoto Protocol got effective. The idea is to lower the reduce carbon emissions that lead to climate changes around the world. The Warm Sweater Day is a reminder stick to what we agreed in the Kyoto Protocol.

There is enormous potentialWe can save so much energy in heating our houses offices and schools Just look at the enormous potential research has pointed out when it comes to saving energy:

  1. Researchers of Cambridge University show that by using excisting energy saving techniques and using our knowledge wisely, we can safe up t0 70% world wide
  2. Research of the University of Tilburg shows that the average Dutch is unaware of energy usage .  43% has no idea how much they actually pay for gas.  27% percent of households that participated in the research does not use their thermostat to safe energy. They keep their house at the same temperature at night as during the day, while a lower night temperature can lower your gas bill by an average of 11%.
  3. It's not just consumers and companies that could safe energy; the government institutions should also join in. They have an important role. Research of the Tilburg Sustainability Center (TSC) shows that proper government policies will lower energy usage of families.

So from now on I'm wearing a warm sweater on Casual Friday!

Join in too!
