About Expedition Niene.nu
The expedition series were first shown at restaurant De Globe in Groningen during the Noorderlicht photography festival in 2009.
The festival was themed: ‘Human Conditions’
Central theme in this first mash ups story is the inner conflict to gain autonomy.ther human themes that speak from the images are: fear, change, loneliness, desire, contact and connection.
Niene.nu connects therse themes to a process of self-realisation.
For the expedition story she used selfportraits and youth portraits made by her father.
There are different ways to consume the images: as a personal story of the photographer and/or as the expression of universal conditions that can be recognised by many people.
Surely there are countless other ways to look at the photographs, depending on your individual perspective and observation.
Everybody has/creates their own reality…
The photographs may also make you wonder:
What is really important to me in life?
What really matters?
What suits me?
What are my values and do I live to them?
Is conflict the right path to growth?
How do I open this path to growth?
Or is growth merely a matter of nourishment?
